Notes on Kite Aerial Photography: Background

The Aerial Eye
The Second Year

Vol. 2, No. 1, Winter 1996 (67K jpg)

Kudos again to Editor Brooks Leffler - the fifth issue, expanded to 28 pages, revisits camera cradles with articles describing approaches from around the world. I was pleasantly stunned to see a wealth of fresh information from new contributors. I take it to be a fine sign that the kite aerial photography topic can support a long-term publication. As a bonus the fifth issue includes a directory of the Aerial Eye's 128 subscribers with address and email information.

Issue six, again 28 pages, provides a discussion of what KAPers shoot and why. The cover image by Wolfgang Bieck is stunning. Yours truly has an image of CAL's Campanile on the rear cover - thanks Brooks.

Vol. 2, No. 3, Summer 1996 (68K jpg)

Issue seven addresses Aerial Technique. Articles within range from KAP photos from a canoe, a 'windmill' controlling mechanism, and taking KAP images without wind. I contributed an article on flying near buildings.

Vol. 2, No. 4, Fall 1996 (71K jpg)

Issue eight returned to the topics of kites and kiteflying. Two different articles described techniques for retrieving kites fouled on trees and powerlines. Other articles describe training delta kites and tuning rokkakus. Brooks was kind enough to put one of my images on the cover.
